Welcome to The Feather Journal
Welcome to The Feather Journal

Welcome to The Feather Journal, a quiet corner of The Feather Atelier where we write about the things that inspire our work: feathers, birds, the stories people have told about them for thousands of years, and the small practices that help us live with a little more lightness.

Why a journal about feathers?

Feathers have a way of stopping us in our tracks. One appears on a path or a windowsill, and for a moment we pause, look closer and wonder. Across cultures and centuries, people have seen feathers as signs of protection, truth, freedom and hope. They have found their way into myths, art, rituals and everyday moments of comfort.

At The Feather Atelier, everything we create begins with that sense of wonder: our printable wall art, our books on feather symbolism, and our journals for reflection and gratitude. This journal is where we share the ideas and stories behind them.

What you will find here

Each Thursday, we will publish a new article. Over the coming weeks you can look forward to:

  • What it means when you find a feather, and a gentle way to reflect on it

  • Feather colours and their meanings, from white and grey to black, brown and red

  • Feathers in mythology: the phoenix, Garuda, the Simurgh and the Firebird

  • The feather of Ma'at, and the ancient Egyptian idea of a heart as light as a feather

  • What birds symbolise: the owl, raven, swan, robin and eagle

  • How to decorate with feather art for a calm, intentional home

  • Meaningful feather gifts for the people you love

  • Gentle seasonal practices for winter, gratitude and the new year

Our approach

We write slowly and thoughtfully, in the same spirit as our art: calm, considered and with a whisper of warmth. Where we share symbolism, mythology or tradition, we do so with respect, as an invitation to reflect rather than a set of rules. Meanings vary between cultures and between people, and your own feeling when a feather finds you always matters most.
